A familiar heating system can make ordinary operating sounds. A new bang, repeated rattle, or sharp squeal is different. If your Brookhaven furnace suddenly sounds louder at startup, describing when the noise happens is more useful than guessing which part needs replacement.
Separate airflow sounds from ignition sounds

A recording made from a safe distance can help explain an intermittent noise. Keep access panels in place and do not reach into operating equipment.

The inspection may include the blower assembly, cabinet and duct connections, operating sequence, and combustion-related components on a fuel-burning furnace. Different noises can have different sources, so diagnosis should come before a part recommendation.
Checking the filter and keeping returns clear are reasonable homeowner steps. Lubricating components or adjusting burners without the correct procedure is not.
Know when to leave the home
If a carbon monoxide alarm sounds, leave and call emergency services from outside. If you smell gas, leave without operating switches and contact the gas utility or emergency services from a safe location.
